SPEAKER GRILLE WARPAGE REPLACE GRILLE WITH NEW P/N

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 C/K

*Some 1988 C/K trucks have experienced speaker grille warpage. A new grille has been designed with stiffening ribs to prevent this condition. Before installation of the new grille (2nd design) it will be necessary to modify the grille and the raised area in the speaker opening of the interior panel. Using the old speaker grille (lst design) as a reference point, file the area on the interior panel that lines up below the old grille notch (see Figure No. 1). On the grille (2nd design) underside measure 4 inches from the rear edge and remove approximately 1/2 inch from the outer stiffening rib (See Figure No. 1). These operations should be performed to accommodate the new grille design and prevent interference.

IMPORTANT: Modification is only required on the RH speaker grille and IP speaker opening. The LH speaker grille will fit as is.

If a plastic grille with this condition requires replacement, service with the paint-to-match base grille stocked by CANSPO. Cloth covered grilles should be replaced by the same color grille stocked by CANSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
