Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 788768  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Inspect the brake caliper assembly. Refer to Brake Caliper Inspection .
  4. Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  5. Without disconnecting the brake hose, remove the brake caliper and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
  6. Inspect the brake pads. Refer to Brake Pad Inspection .

  8. Remove the front brake pads from the bracket. Inboard brake pad shown.
  9. Inspect the brake hardware. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection .

  10. Object Number: 783127  Size: SH
  11. Remove the brake pad retaining clips from the bracket. Inboard brake pad shown.

  12. Object Number: 777313  Size: SH
  13. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolts. Lower bolt shown.

  14. Object Number: 748561  Size: SH
  15. Remove the brake caliper bracket.

  16. Object Number: 788344  Size: SH
  17. Remove the guide pin seals from the brake caliper bracket.
  18. Inspect the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Surface and Wear Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 788344  Size: SH
  1. Install the guide pin seals on the bracket.
  2. If the guide pins and brake pad retaining clips are to be reused, use denatured alcohol to clean them.
  3. Dry the brake guide pins and brake pad retaining clips with non-lubricated, filtered air.

  4. Object Number: 156329  Size: SH
  5. Apply high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the brake caliper guide pins. DO NOT apply the lubricant to the brake pad retaining clips.

  6. Object Number: 788768  Size: SH
  7. Install the brake caliper bracket.
  8. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  9. Install the caliper bracket bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 160 N·m (118 lb ft).

  11. Install the front brake pad hardware to the brake caliper bracket.

  12. Object Number: 788397  Size: SH
  13. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket.

  14. Object Number: 788768  Size: SH
  15. Install the brake caliper assembly. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
  16. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  17. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  18. Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

  19. Pump the brake pedal slowly and firmly in order to seat the brake pads.
