Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Answer No to the question below if the vehicle is not provided with a retained accessory power (RAP) relay.

Do only the devices powered by the RAP relay exhibit this symptom?

Go to Step 5

  1. Observe the following parameters in body control module (BCM), driver door module (DDM), passenger door module (PDM) and liftgate control module (LGM) data list:
  2. • Left Rear Door Ajar Sw.
    • Right Rear Door Ajar Sw.
    • Door Ajar Switch
    • Liftgate Ajar Switch
    • Liftglass Ajar Switch
  3. Open and close each door while observing the respective parameter.

Does the scan tool display change from On/Closed to Off/Ajar?

  1. Install a scan tool. Select diagnostic circuit check and then class 2 power mode.
  2. Close all of the doors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Wait 5 seconds then turn the ignition OFF.
  5. Wait the time-out for RAP.

Did the scan tool display the RAP power mode then time-out, and display Off-Awake power mode?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the RAP relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a test lamp that is connected to a good ground, probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the RAP relay.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Connect a test lamp across the relay coil circuits of the RAP relay.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Test the RAP relay control circuit for a short to ground or an open.

Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF, when testing for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 17

Test the RAP relay ground circuit for an open.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 17

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Reconnect the RAP relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a test lamp that is connected to a good ground, probe the RAP relay switched output circuit at the RAP relay.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Repair the RAP relay switched output circuit for an open. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the replacement?

Inspect for poor connections at the RAP relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 17

Test the RAP relay switched output circuit for a short to ground.

  1. Repair the battery positive voltage circuit of the RAP relay. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Reconnect the RAP relay.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Do only the power roof and midgate glass exhibit this symptom?

  1. Observe the following parameters in body control module (BCM), driver door module (DDM), passenger door module (PDM) and endgate control module (EGM) data list:
  2. • Left Rear Door Ajar Sw.
    • Right Rear Door Ajar Sw.
    • Door Ajar Switch
    • Lower Left Ajar Switch
    • Upper Left Ajar Switch
    • Upper Right Ajar Switch
  3. Open and close each door while observing the respective parameter.

Does the scan tool display change from On/Closed to Off/Ajar?

  1. Install a scan tool. Select diagnostic circuit check and then class 2 power mode.
  2. Close all the doors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Wait 5 seconds then turn the ignition OFF.
  5. Wait the time-out for retained accessory power (RAP).

Did the scan tool display the RAP power mode, then time-out and display Off-Awake power mode?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the overhead console switch assembly electrical connector A.
  3. Disconnect the power roof module (PRM).
  4. Disconnect the BCM.
  5. Test the RAP supply voltage circuit for an open between BCM connector and PRM connector and between BCM connector and overhead console switch connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the BCM, if not disconnected.
  3. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup and programming.
