DEFINITION: Windshield wipers are inoperative in all low and high modes.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Attempt to operate the windshield wipers in all modes.

Are the windshield wipers inoperative in all modes?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Connect a test lamp from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal in the windshield wiper motor harness connector to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Connect a test lamp between the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal and the ground circuit terminal of windshield wiper motor in the windshield wiper motor harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Remove the wiper motor cover from the wiper motor.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the wiper motor ground terminal T3 to the low speed supply terminal T1 on the wiper motor cover.
  3. With the harness connector connected to the wiper motor cover operate the wiper switch to the low speed position.

Does the test lamp illuminate for approximately 15 seconds?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper motor connector. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Repair an open or short to ground in the accessory voltage supply circuit to the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 11

Repair an open or high resistance in the windshield wiper motor ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 11

Replace the windshield wiper motor cover. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Cover Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 11

Replace the windshield wiper motor.

Is the repair complete?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
