Models:2004-2008 Chevrolet Colorado
2004-2008 GMC Canyon

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment when unlocking the vehicle using the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) system, the interior lights will remain illuminated for approximately 20 minutes. This concern will only occur in two instances:

  1. If the doors are NOT opened after unlocking with RKE.
  2. If the lock button on the FOB is NOT used after unlocking with RKE.

This is the result of design intent software to leave the interior lights illuminated until timed out by the Battery Run Down Protection feature also known as Inadvertent Power. If any one door is opened, the interior lamps Illuminate for a predetermined length of time (approximately 20 seconds) or until the ignition is turned ON. Pressing the RKE transmitter LOCK button immediately turns OFF the interior lamps.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This should be considered a normal operating characteristic. No repairs are recommended.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
