Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint front end sensor. Before applying power to the front end sensor make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement.

  3. Object Number: 1277245  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the fasteners (1) retaining the front discriminating sensors to the radiator support.

  5. Object Number: 1277247  Size: SH
  6. Remove the sensor assembly from the radiator support.

  7. Object Number: 1277248  Size: SH
  8. Position the sensor assembly, to gain access to the electrical connector.
  9. Remove the connector-position assurance (CPA) from the sensor electrical connector.
  10. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  11. Remove the sensor from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove any dirt, grease, or other impurities from the mounting surfaces.

  3. Position the sensor near the radiator support.
  4. Connect the sensor electrical connector.
  5. Install the CPA to the sensor electrical connector.

  6. Object Number: 1277247  Size: SH
  7. Install the sensor assembly to the radiator support.

  8. Object Number: 1277245  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the 2 fasteners (1) retaining the discriminating sensor assembly to the radiator support.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  11. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement.
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
