Crossmember Replacement Early Design

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the coupler clamp bolt from the intermediate shaft. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  3. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering gear.

  5. Remove the long vertical steering gear mounting bolt.

  6. Object Number: 1207227  Size: SH
  7. Remove the 2 short horizontal isolator clamp bolts.
  8. Loosen the long horizontal steering gear mounting bolt.
  9. Tilt the steering gear to allow access to the frame crossmember bolts.

  10. Object Number: 1241436  Size: SH
  11. Remove the crossmember mounting nuts and bolts .
  12. Remove the crossmember from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1665003  Size: SH
  1. Install the crossmember to the vehicle.
  2. Reverse the orientation of the crossmember bolts then reinstall them.
  3. Perform the following procedure before installing the bolts:
  4. • Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    • Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    • Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488).

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the bolts and the nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  7. Install the 2 short horizontal isolator clamp bolts. Do not tighten.
  8. Install the long vertical mounting bolt, washer, and nut to the power steering gear. Do not tighten.

  9. Object Number: 1207228  Size: SH
  10. Install the long vertical mounting bolt, washer, and nut to the power steering gear.
  11. Tighten

        • Tighten the mounting bolt nuts to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).
        • Tighten the isolator clamp bolts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).
  12. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering gear.
  13. Install the coupler clamp bolt to the intermediate shaft. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  14. Lower the vehicle.

Crossmember Replacement Late Design

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 1665003  Size: SH
  3. Remove the crossmember mounting nuts and bolts .
  4. Remove the crossmember from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1665003  Size: SH
  1. Install the crossmember to the vehicle.
  2. Perform the following procedure before installing the bolts.
  3. • Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    • Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    • Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488).

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the bolts and the nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  6. Lower the vehicle.
