Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Inspect the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  2. If the brake fluid is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.

  4. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between thew maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, using an appropriate tool, remove the brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.

  5. Object Number: 1253296  Size: SH
  6. Remove the wheel hub/speed sensor assembly. Refer to Wheel Hub/Speed Sensor Replacement .
  7. Important: In the following service procedure, support the wheel hub/brake rotor assembly with wood when working on the bench.

  8. Using 2 pieces of wood, support the wheel hub/brake rotor assembly.

  10. Remove the wheel hub/speed sensor to brake rotor bolts.

  11. Object Number: 1241355  Size: SH
  12. Separate the brake rotor from the wheel bearing/hub assembly.
  13. Clean the surface between the wheel bearing/hub assembly and the brake rotor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the wheel bearing/hub on the brake rotor.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: The following service procedure is to be performed on a flat surface and to ensure the brake rotor is securely attached to the hub assembly prior to the final torquing procedure. DO NOT use air tools of any type for this procedure.

  3. Install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten

    1. Tighten the mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
    2. Tighten again in a criss-cross pattern to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  5. Install the wheel bearing/hub, brake rotor assembly in the steering knuckle. Refer to Wheel Hub/Speed Sensor Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle.

  7. Object Number: 787456  Size: SH
  8. Inspect the fluid level. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
  9. Burnish the brakes. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .
