Water Pump Replacement LXV

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
2. Remove the water pump pulley. Refer to Water Pump Pulley Replacement.



3. Remove the 5 water pump bolts (2).
4. Remove the water pump (1).

1. Clean the 5 water pump threads.
2. Insert a NEW water pump seal ring.



3. Install the water pump (1).
4. Install the 5 water pump bolts (2).
5. Install the water pump pulley. Refer to Water Pump Pulley Replacement.
6. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

Water Pump Replacement 2.0L Diesel LLW

1. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.
2. Remove the fuel injection pump drive pulley. Refer to Fuel Injection Pump Drive Pulley Removal.
3. Remove the timing belt rear cover (1).
4. Remove the timing belt rear cover. Refer to Timing Belt Rear Cover Replacement.



5. Remove the 5 water pump bolts (3).
6. Remove the water pump (1).
7. Remove the water pump gasket (2).

1. Inspect the water pump.

Note: 

•	Ensure that the engine block surface and water pump surface are clear of old gasket material.

•	Do not immerse the water pump in solvent. The solvent may enter the water pump's permanently lubricated bearings and cause premature bearing failure.

2. Rotate the water pump drive pulley.

Note: The water pump drive pulley and impeller should turn straight and smoothly. If the drive pulley wobbles, is noisy, or feels rough when rotating, replace the water pump.




3. Install a NEW water pump gasket. (2)
4. Install the water pump (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

5. Install the 5 water pump bolts (3) and tighten to  11 N·m (97 lb in).
6. Install the timing belt rear cover. Refer to Timing Belt Rear Cover Replacement.
7. Install the fuel injection pump drive pulley. Refer to Fuel Injection Pump Drive Pulley Removal.
8. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.
