Caution: The steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting the following components:

   • The steering column
   • The steering shaft coupling
   • The intermediate shaft
   • The lower steering shaft
After disconnecting these components, do not move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow these procedures may cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result in possible damage to the SIR coil.

Removal Procedure

  1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight forward position and support it from movement.

  2. Object Number: 2027661  Size: SH
  3. Remove the 2 intermediate steering shaft bolts.

  4. Object Number: 2027663  Size: SH
  5. Remove the intermediate steering shaft.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 2027663  Size: SH
  1. Install the intermediate steering shaft.

  2. Object Number: 2027664  Size: SH

    Note: The recess (2) of the fine toothing in the universal joint have to align precisely with the recess (1) of the fine toothing on the steering pinion. The bore in the universal joint have to align with the groove on the steering pinion (3).

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 2 intermediate steering shaft bolts. Tighten the intermediate steering shaft bolts XX N·m (XX lb ft).
