Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 630583  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fill plug (2) and gasket.
  4. Place a container under the drain plug (1) in order to catch the oil.
  5. Remove the drain plug and gasket. Allow the oil to drain.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the drain plug (1) and gasket.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the drain plug to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).

  3. Fill the transfer case with synthetic gear oil GM P/N United States 12378514 Canada P/N 88901045, or equivalent. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities in General Information.
  4. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the oil fill plug hole.
  5. Install the oil fill plug (2) and gasket.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the oil fill plug to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle.
