Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Operate all of the steering wheel controls.

Do all of the steering wheel controls operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the steering column in-line connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Test the rear seat audio (RSA) / steering wheel controls (SWC) reference power circuit for an open.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Measure the resistance between the RSA/SWC reference power circuit of the steering column in-line connector and the steering wheel control signal circuit.
  2. Press the following steering wheel controls and record the resistance values:
  3. • Volume Up
    • Volume Down
    • Play
    • Mute
    • Seek Up
    • Seek Down
    • AM/FM
    • Pre-Set

Do the recorded resistances measure near the specified values?

1,270 ohms

1,564 ohms

1,912 ohms

2,387 ohms

3,102 ohms

4,282 ohms

6,652 ohms

13,632 ohms

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Test the RSA/SWC reference power circuit between the steering column in-line connector and the radio connector for a short, high resistance, or an open.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the steering wheel radio controls. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the appropriate steering wheel radio control. Refer to Steering Wheel Control Switch Assembly Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
