DEFINITION: The interior courtesy lights stay on with all of the doors closed, the instrument panel (I/P) switch OFF, the interior lamps override switch in the ON position (interior lights enabled), and none of the interior lighting modes activated. However, the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection turns off the interior courtesy lights after 10 minutes.

Enter the body control module (BCM) Input/Output Diagnostic Mode. Refer to On-Board Diagnostic Features in Body Control System.

Does the BCM perform the Output test?

Perform the output test mode 2.

Do the footwell lamps and cargo lamp turn off when the BCM performs the Output test mode 2?

  1. Close all of the vehicle doors.
  2. Open and close the left front and the right front doors, one door at a time.
  3. Open and close the left sliding door, if equipped, and the right sliding door, one door at a time.
  4. Open and close the rear liftgate door.

Does the chime sound when each vehicle door opens?

Is the vehicle equipped with the content theft deterrent (RPO UA6)?

  1. Insert the key into the driver door lock cylinder.
  2. Turn the key until the key stops, as in trying to unlock the door, while listening for the chime.
  3. Insert the key into the passenger door lock cylinder.
  4. Turn the key until the key stops, as in trying to unlock the door, while listening for the chime.

Does the chime sound when each key is turned?

  1. Disconnect the headlamp switch connector.
  2. Close all of the vehicle doors.

Do the courtesy lamps turn off?

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit and battery voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Test for a short to ground in the door switch signal circuit of the NON chiming door. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for a short to ground in the door lock switch unlock signal circuit of the NON chiming key lock cylinder. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the courtesy lamps switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair a short to ground in the courtesy lamp low control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative door lock switch or sliding door jamb switch. Refer to the appropriate procedure:

    •  Front Side Door Lock Replacement in Doors.
    •  Liftgate Latch Striker Replacement in Body Rear End.

Replace the door lock cylinder switch. Refer to the Liftgate Latch Striker Replacement in Doors.
