Verify that the door ajar indicator malfunction fault is present.

Does the door ajar indicator operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is the door ajar indicator inoperative?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Probe the door ajar indicator control circuit of the instrument panel cluster (IPC) connector with a test lamp connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp and the door ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 9

Test the door ajar indicator control circuit of the appropriate door lock or sliding door jamb switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Test the ground circuit of the appropriate door lock or sliding door jamb switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the door ajar indicator control circuit of the appropriate door lock or sliding door jamb switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate door lock or sliding door jamb switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the appropriate door lock or sliding door jamb switch. Refer to Front Side Door Lock Replacement or Sliding Door Jamb Contact Plate Replacement .
