Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

1. Visually inspect the drum brake system universal spring (3) for the following:

•	Bent or damaged

•	Broken or excessive corrosion

•	Excessive stretching

•	Twisting or binding

2. If any of the conditions listed were found, the drum brake system hardware requires replacement.
3. Visually inspect the park brake lever (5) for the following:

•

Bent

•	Broken pivot

•	Broken at park brake cable attachment

4. If any of the conditions listed were found, the park brake lever and/or attaching hardware requires replacement.
