Subject:Battery Drain On Vehicles Equipped with Power Sliding Doors

Models:

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

High battery draw on mini-vans equipped with E58 (right) or E59 (left) PSD (power sliding door).

Recommendation/Instructions:

Some PSD controllers have mistakenly been replaced because they were thought to be the source of a high current draw when trying to diagnose a battery drain complaint. The PSD controller stays awake for 10 minutes after it has been initialized or after any other PSD function. If there is a battery disconnect or any interruption of power and then power is restored to the controller, the system remains awake and will draw 35-75 ma (milliamps) indefinitely until the technician reinitializes the PSD system and waits 10 minutes for the system to go to sleep.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
