Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement 7x CKP Sensor

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 15969  Size: SH
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Crank steering wheel fully to the left.
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the right tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the attaching bolt/screw.
  7. Remove the CKP sensor from the engine.
  8. Inspect for wear, cracks, or leakage if the CKP sensor is not being replaced.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil before installation and replace if damaged.

  2. Object Number: 15969  Size: SH
  3. Install the CKP sensor to the block.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the sensor attaching bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  7. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
  8. Install the right tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Perform the CKP system variation learn procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .

Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement 24x CKP Sensor

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 14714  Size: SH
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the serpentine drive belt from crankshaft pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  3. Raise the vehicle on hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information
  4. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  5. Note the routing of the CKP sensor harness before removal.
  6. Remove the harness retaining clip (3) with the bolt (4).
  7. Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
  8. Remove the sensor bolts (4).
  9. Remove the sensor.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 14714  Size: SH
  1. Install the 24X CKP sensor with the bolts (4) and route the harness as noted during removal.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the harness retaining clip (3) with the bolt (4).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
  6. Install the balancer on the crankshaft. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Install the serpentine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  9. Perform the Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .
