The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

An owner may comment of running out of gas while parked or a crank no start while on an incline (typically nose down) with 1/4 tank of fuel or less.

Recommendation/Instructions:

When faced with the concern of crank no start or running out of gas when parked nose down on incline with less than 1/4 fuel level in tank, please advise customer that this is a normal characteristic of this vehicle due to the nature of the fuel tank design. With the sender/pump mounted in the rear of the tank, anytime the vehicle is parked on an incline with the nose down and a 1/4 tank or less of fuel this situation may occur.

Refer to the Owners manual under 'Remote Vehicle Start" and find the paragraph that states: If your vehicle is low on fuel, do not use the remote start feature. The vehicle may run out of fuel. THE VEHICLE MAY ALSO RUN OUT OF FUEL IF THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME WHEN PARKED ON AN INCLINE FACING DOWNWARD WITH A LOW FUEL CONDITION.

Specifically refer to the sentence (capitalized above) and advise that the run time when on an incline will vary widely depending upon the amount of fuel in the tank and the grade of the slope the vehicle is upon. Please advise owners to keep their gas tanks filled above 1/4 if they must drive and/or park on steep inclines with the nose down.

Note:: When referring customers to their owners manuals please be aware that early 2005 MY's may not have this statement listed as above referencing running out of fuel while on an incline. If possible locate a 2006 or later manual to better clarify this condition.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
