Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bearing Replacement S4WD

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the actuator.
  4. Remove the wire harness clip from the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.

  5. Object Number: 761105  Size: SH
  6. Remove the intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts.
  7. Note: Do not nick or cut the inboard (oil pan) side inner shaft seal.

  8. Remove the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.

  9. Object Number: 756961  Size: SH
  10. Remove the actuator from the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the actuator to the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 756961  Size: SH
  3. Install the actuator assembly to intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts and tighten to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
  4. Note: Do not nick or cut the inboard (oil pan) inner shaft seal.

  5. Install the intermediate shaft bearing assembly to the oil pan.

  6. Object Number: 761105  Size: SH
  7. Install the intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts and tighten to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).
  8. Install the wire harness clip.
  9. Connect the electrical connector.
  10. Install the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bearing Replacement A4WD

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.

  3. Object Number: 761107  Size: SH
  4. Remove the intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts.
  5. Remove the wire harness clip from the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.
  6. Note: Do not nick or cut the inboard (oil pan) inner shaft seal.

  7. Remove the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Note: 

       • Do not nick or cut the inboard (oil pan) inner shaft seal.
       • The intermediate shaft bearing assembly must fit flush against the oil pan in order for the inner axle shaft and the intermediate shaft bearing assembly to be properly installed.

  1. Install the intermediate shaft bearing assembly to the oil pan.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 761107  Size: SH
  3. Install the intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts and tighten to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).
  4. Install the wire harness clip.
  5. Install the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
