J 46406 Fan Clutch Remover and Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 4.2L engine or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine.
  3. Remove the air resonator assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement for the 4.2L engine or Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct Replacement for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine.
  4. Remove the inlet radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement.

  6. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the fan shroud.

  7. Object Number: 750177  Size: SH
  8. Using J 46406 remove the fan clutch from the water pump.

  9. Object Number: 1669748  Size: SH
  10. Remove the mounting bolts from the upper fan shroud.
  11. Lift and push the fan shroud inward to clear the filler neck on the radiator.
  12. Remove the fan and the shroud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1669748  Size: SH
  1. Install the fan and the shroud.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the mounting bolts to the upper fan shroud.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Using J 46406 install the fan clutch to the water pump.

  7. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the fan shroud.
  8. Install the inlet radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement.
  9. Install the air resonator assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement for the 4.2L engine or Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct Replacement for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine.
  10. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 4.2L engine or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine.
  11. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
