Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (1).

  2. Object Number: 465396  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the TV cable locknut (3) and the adjusting nut.
  4. Remove the TV cable from the throttle body linkage.
  5. Remove the TV cable casing from the TV cable bracket (2) at the throttle body.
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove 1 bolt and the TV cable retaining bracket from the transmission.
  8. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement in Front Propeller Shaft Replacement.
  9. Remove the transmission range switch. Refer to Transmission Range Switch Replacement .

  11. Remove the transmission fluid pan (2) the bolts (3) and the gasket from the transmission. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .
  12. Remove the valve body from the transmission. Refer to Valve Body and Accumulator Pistons Removal .

  14. Remove the TV cable (3) case from the transmission.
  15. Inspect the TV cable for fraying or kinks.
  16. Replace the cable as necessary.

  18. Inspect the TV cable O-ring (1) for damage. Replace the O-ring if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Attach the TV cable (2) to the transmission.
  2. Attach the TV cable (2) to the TV cable cam (3) while installing the valve body.
  3. Install the valve body in the transmission. Refer to Valve Body and Accumulator Pistons Removal .
  4. Install the transmission range switch. Refer to Transmission Range Switch Replacement .

  6. Install the transmission fluid pan (2) and gasket to the transmission. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 166185  Size: SH
  8. Attach the pinion flange yoke (2) to the front differential pinion flange (3) aligning the index (reference marks) (1) on the pinion flange.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Secure the pinion flange yoke (2) with 4 bolts and nuts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the propeller shaft bolts and nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb in).

  12. Lower the vehicle.

  14. Position the cable (1) in a  100 mm (3.94 in) radius (a)  as shown.
  15. Pull the inner cable (3) with the force of 2 N·m (0.45  lb ft) to remove the slack in the cable.
  16. Crimp the stopper (2) to the inner cable (3) 0.8-mm  (0.03-0.06 in) from the end of the cable casing as shown in dimension (C).
  17. Install the TV cable casing into the TV cable bracket at the throttle body.

  19. Install the TV cable to the throttle body linkage.
  20. Connect the negative battery cable.
  21. Adjust the TV cable (3). Refer to Automatic Transmission Throttle Valve Cable Adjustment .
