Engine Noise (Replace Belt Tensioner)

Models:1999-2001 Chevrolet Tracker
with 2.0L Engine (VIN C -- RPO L34)



Condition

Some customers may comment that the engine sounds noisy.

Cause

This condition may be due to a loose bearing within the tensioner assembly.

Correction

For a rattle type noise from the front of the engine (which goes away with the drive belt removed from the tensioner), replace the tensioner, P/N 91176512, using the following procedure:

  1. Loosen/disconnect the accessory drive belt from the tensioner and set aside.
  2. Remove the two bolts holding the tensioner to the engine and remove the tensioner.
  3. Place the new tensioner to the engine and install the two retaining bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (19 lb ft).

  5. Align and reinstall the accessory drive belt to all pulleys and the tensioner.
  6. Inspect the belt for proper alignment to all pulleys.
