The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) system uses controls that are internal as well as external to the transmission.

The TCC system includes the following external control components:

    • Cruise Control Release Switch -- In order to avoid stalling the engine when braking, the converter clutch releases anytime the brake pedal is applied.
    • Powertrain Control Module (PCM) -- The PCM receives input signals and grounds TCC solenoid to apply clutch when the proper operating conditions are met.
    • Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -- The TP Sensor sends throttle position information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    • Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -- The VSS sends vehicle speed information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    • Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor -- The MAP Sensor sends engine vacuum (load) information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    • Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor -- The ECT Sensor sends engine coolant temperature information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
