Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement 1500 Series

Removal Procedure

Important: Clean all evaporative emission (EVAP) line connections and surrounding areas prior to disconnecting, in order to avoid possible EVAP system contamination.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the EVAP canister bracket bolts and lower the EVAP canister.
  3. Disconnect the fuel tank EVAP line quick connect fittings (1) from the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  4. Object Number: 1706533  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid quick connecting fitting (1) from the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  6. Object Number: 1706540  Size: SH
  7. Remove the EVAP canister.
  8. If necessary, remove the EVAP canister to bracket bolt.
  9. If necessary, remove the EVAP canister from the bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1706540  Size: SH
  1. If necessary, install the EVAP canister to the bracket.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. If necessary, install the EVAP canister to bracket bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Position the EVAP canister.

  7. Connect the EVAP canister vent solenoid quick connecting fitting (1) to the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  8. Object Number: 1704492  Size: SH
  9. Connect the fuel tank EVAP line quick connect fittings (1) to the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  10. Install the EVAP canister bracket bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  12. Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure

Important: Clean all evaporative emission (EVAP) line connections and surrounding areas prior to disconnecting, in order to avoid possible EVAP system contamination.

  1. Remove the right side, rear bumper step pad. Refer to Rear Bumper Step Outer Pad Replacement .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Disconnect the chassis wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the EVAP canister vent solenoid.

  5. Disconnect the rear fuel tank EVAP canister quick connect fittings from the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  6. Remove the EVAP canister bolt.
  7. Lower the vehicle half way.

  9. Loosen the EVAP canister bracket nuts (1).

  10. Object Number: 1372958  Size: SH
  11. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, disengage the front bracket clip.

  12. Object Number: 1372960  Size: SH
  13. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, disengage the rear bracket clip.
  14. Remove the EVAP canister.
  15. Cap the EVAP lines in order to prevent possible EVAP system contamination.

  17. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid line (1) quick connect fitting at the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the EVAP canister vent solenoid line (1) quick connect fitting at the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  2. Object Number: 1372960  Size: SH
  3. Remove the caps from the EVAP lines.
  4. Install the EVAP canister.
  5. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, engage the rear bracket clip.

  6. Object Number: 1372958  Size: SH
  7. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, engage the front bracket clip.
  8. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1373032  Size: SH
  9. Tighten the EVAP canister bracket nuts (1).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  11. Raise the vehicle.
  12. Install the EVAP canister bolt.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  14. Connect the rear fuel tank EVAP canister quick connect fittings to the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  15. Object Number: 1224403  Size: SH
  16. Connect the EVAP canister vent solenoid (CVS) electrical connector (1).
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Install the right side, rear bumper step pad. Refer to Rear Bumper Step Outer Pad Replacement .
