Parking Brake Actuator Replacement 15 Series

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and removing the cable from the equalizer bar.
  5. Remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
  6. Remove the rear park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever.
  7. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  8. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
  9. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 370684  Size: SH
  11. Remove the backing plate bolts.
  12. Remove the park brake actuator lever housing from the backing plate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 370684  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake actuator lever housing to the backing plate.
  2. Perform the following procedure before installing the backing plate bolts.
  3. 2.1.  Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2.2. Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
    2.3. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the bolt.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the backing plate bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N·m (100 lb ft).

  6. Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  7. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
  8. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  9. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  10. Install the rear park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever.
  11. Install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.
  12. Install the park brake cable to the equalizer bar by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and installing the cable to the equalizer bar.
  13. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Remove the safety stands.
  15. Lower vehicle.
  16. Adjust park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .

Parking Brake Actuator Replacement 25 Series

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  4. Object Number: 791349  Size: SH
  5. Relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and removing the cable from the equalizer bar.
  6. Remove the rear park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever.
  7. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  8. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  9. Remove the actuator lever from the backing plate.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the actuator lever to the backing plate.
  2. Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  3. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  4. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.

  5. Object Number: 791349  Size: SH
  6. Install the rear park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever.
  7. Install the park brake cable to the equalizer bar by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and installing the cable to the equalizer bar.
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  9. Remove the safety stands.
  10. Lower vehicle.
  11. Adjust park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
