Subject:Guidelines to Setup a Weight Distributing Hitch on Vehicles Equipped with RPO Z55 Auto Ride

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Owners may inquire about the proper setup for a weight distributing hitch on vehicles equipped with RPO Z55 Auto Ride Suspension.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Setup With Automatic Rear Leveling enabled (during trailer coupling):

  1. Measure and record height of front wheel opening to pavement without trailer connected.
  2. Connect trailer tongue to vehicle hitch. Note: Vehicle compressor will likely turn on and raise rear of vehicle back to the normal level. Allow this to complete. This will actually aid with connection of WD hitch spring bars.
  3. Connect WD hitch spring bars. Note: Vehicle rear end will likely raise slightly when the bars are attached. This is due to the fact that the WD hitch is transferring a portion of the trailer tongue load to the front of the vehicle as intended. Subsequently, the leveling system will likely lower the rear of the vehicle back to the normal level (allow several minutes for this).
  4. Re-check front wheel opening height. Height should be close to original height from step 1. If necessary, repeat setup with an alternate spring bar tension to get the front height closer to original.

.

Setup With Automatic Rear Leveling disabled (during trailer coupling):

.

  1. Measure and record height of front wheel opening to pavement without trailer connected.
  2. With vehicle in place for hitch attachment, turn IGN off and wait > 10 minutes (leveling system will then be disabled).
  3. Connect trailer to vehicle hitch and connect WD hitch components. Note that it may be necessary to utilize the trailer tongue jack to lift the trailer/vehicle to aid with spring bar attachment. If jack is utilized, be sure to restore the jack after coupling is complete.
  4. Enable the automatic leveling system to operate by turning vehicle IGN on. Note: Vehicle compressor will likely turn on and raise rear of vehicle back to the normal level. Allow this to complete.
  5. Re-check front wheel opening height. Height should be close to original height from step 1. If necessary, repeat setup with an alternate spring bar tension to get the front height closer to original.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
