Generator Bracket Replacement 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 759636  Size: SH
  1. Remove the battery cable junction block bracket bolts.

  2. Object Number: 663649  Size: SH
  3. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  4. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
  5. Remove the generator bracket bolts.
  6. Remove the generator bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 663649  Size: SH
  1. Install the generator bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the generator bracket bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the generator bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
  6. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 759636  Size: SH
  8. Install the battery cable junction block bracket bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable junction block bracket bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

Generator Bracket Replacement 4.3 L Engine

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 360851  Size: SH
  3. Separate the MAF/IAT sensor assembly and the air inlet tube by loosening the hose clamp.
  4. Disconnect the PCV hose from the air cleaner outlet duct.

  5. Object Number: 489179  Size: SH
  6. Remove the air inlet tube and resonator retaining wing nut.

  7. Object Number: 489176  Size: SH
  8. Remove the air inlet tube and resonator from the throttle body by pivoting the air inlet tube and resonator upward until the hinge clip releases from the lip on the throttle body.
  9. Remove the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  10. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-4.3 L.

  11. Object Number: 334162  Size: SH
  12. Remove the bolt holding the bracket for the wiring harness and the A/C hose, if equipped, from the generator mounting bracket.

  13. Object Number: 316440  Size: SH
  14. Remove the bolt holding the heater hose bracket to the generator mounting bracket.
  15. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  16. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement in Engine Mechanical-4.3 L.
  17. Remove the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Right Side in Engine Mechanical-4.3 L.

  18. Object Number: 196643  Size: SH
  19. Remove the 2 bolts and the nut holding the generator mounting bracket to the engine.
  20. Slide the generator mounting bracket off of the stud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 196643  Size: SH
  1. Slide the generator mounting bracket on the stud.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the 2 bolts and the nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bracket bolts and nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  5. Install the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Right Side in Engine Mechanical-4.3 L.
  6. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement in Engine Mechanical-4.3 L.
  7. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 316440  Size: SH
  9. Install the bolt holding the heater hose bracket to the generator mounting bracket.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the heater hose bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).


    Object Number: 334162  Size: SH
  11. Install the bolt holding the bracket for the wiring harness and the A/C hose, if equipped, to the generator mounting bracket.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the wiring harness bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  13. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-4.3 L.
  14. Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  15. Object Number: 489176  Size: SH
  16. Align the hinge clip with the lip on the throttle body.
  17. Install the air inlet tube and resonator to the throttle body by pivoting the air inlet tube and resonator downward until the mounting stud is through the hole in the air inlet tube.

  18. Install the resonator retaining wing nut.
  19. Connect the PCV hose to the air cleaner outlet duct.

  20. Object Number: 373468  Size: SH
  21. Connect the MAF/IAT sensor assembly harness connector.
  22. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Generator Bracket Replacement 8.1L Engine

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the battery cable junction block bracket bolts.

  2. Object Number: 751458  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fan and clutch. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory in Engine Mechanical - 8.1L.
  5. Remove the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 8.1L.
  6. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  7. Remove the generator bracket bolts and nut.
  8. Remove the generator bracket stud.
  9. Remove the generator bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 751458  Size: SH
  1. Install the generator bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the generator bracket stud.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the stud to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the generator bracket bolts and nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts and nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft)

  7. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  8. Install the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 8.1L.
  9. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory in Engine Mechanical - 8.1L.
  10. Install the fan and clutch. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  11. Object Number: 759640  Size: SH
  12. Install the battery cable junction block bracket bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
