Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transfer case shields. Refer to Shield Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 177160  Size: SH
  3. Remove the transfer case wiring harness connectors from the motor/encoder.

  4. Object Number: 165625  Size: SH
  5. Remove three bolts securing the motor/encoder gasket and motor/encoder to the transfer case.
  6. Retain the rubber gasket for reuse.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 165625  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install three bolts securing the motor/encoder and the rubber gasket to the transfer case.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the motor/encoder bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    • Ensure the motor/encoder aligns properly with the transfer case shift shaft.
    • Align the motor/encoder mating surface detent with the transfer case mating surface detent.

  3. Install the transfer case wiring harness connectors to the motor/encoder.
  4. Install the transfer case shield. Refer to Shield Replacement .
