BO 46440 (DS 401) TORX Bolt Wrench

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SRS Handling Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Position the steering wheel straight ahead.
  3. Remove the driver air bag module mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the air bag module bolt cover (1).
  5. Caution: Refer to SRS Special Tool Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Eye Protection Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Remove the air bag module TORX bolt (2) using the BO 46440  (3).

  7. Object Number: 1223204  Size: SH

    Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

       • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module
       • Make sure the bag opening points away from you
    When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.

  8. Disconnect the driver air bag module connector  (3).
  9. Disconnect the horn terminal connector (1).
  10. Remove the driver air bag module (2).

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Eye Protection Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

  1. Install the driver air bag module.
  2. Connect the connectors to the horn terminal and the driver air bag module.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the driver air bag module TORX bolt (2) using the BO 46440 .
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the TORX bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
