Engine Control Module Programming and Setup W/RPO LMM

The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.

ECM Replacement

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:

  1. Capture the Option data.
  2. Important: Clear any DTCs that may have set after completing the programming procedure.

  3. Enable ECM Reprogramming--Refer to Service Programming System (SPS).
  4. Restore the Option data in the new ECM.
  5. Start and idle vehicle.
  6. Using the scan tool, perform the Turbocharger Learn Procedure. Refer to Turbocharger Learn.
  7. Perform a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Enable.
  8. If necessary, perform the following:
  9. • Theft Deterrent--Refer to Theft Deterrent Control Module Programming and Setup.
    • The Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming--Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming.
    • Engine Oil Life Remaining--Use scan tool to reset Engine Oil Life.
    • Fuel Filter Life--Use scan tool to reset Fuel Filter Life.

ECM Reprogramming

Important: It is necessary to record Fuel Filter Life before reprogramming. The ECM reprogramming procedure will reset Fuel Filter Life to zero.

  1. Record Fuel Filter Life.
  2. Important: Clear any DTCs that may have set after completing the programming procedure.

  3. Enable ECM Reprogramming--Refer to Service Programming System (SPS).
  4. Reset Fuel Filter Life to the recorded value.

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a Turbocharger Learn Procedure must be performed.

    • Turbocharger
    • Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor
    • Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid Valve

Engine Control Module Programming and Setup Gasoline Engines

The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.

ECM Replacement

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:

Warning: Replacement or reprogramming of the ECM, or replacement of the clutch pedal position sensor (CPPS) or clutch pedal requires that a CPPS learn procedure be performed. Failure to perform the CPPS learn procedure may result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle or its components if the vehicle is in gear and the starter motor is accidentally engaged.

    • The ECM Reprogramming--Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
    • The CKP Variation Learn--Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .
    • The Theft Deterrent Programming--Refer to Theft Deterrent Control Module Programming and Setup .
    • The Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn--Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn for the Tremec 5-Speed (TZ0) or Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn for the Tremec 5-Speed (M96).
    • The Fuel Composition Diagnostic--Refer to Fuel Composition Diagnosis for the 5.3L (LMG or LC9).
    • Engine Oil Life Remaining--When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
    • Transmission Fluid Life Remaining--When available, use a scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.

ECM Reprogramming

Warning: Replacement or reprogramming of the ECM, or replacement of the clutch pedal position sensor (CPPS) or clutch pedal requires that a CPPS learn procedure be performed. Failure to perform the CPPS learn procedure may result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle or its components if the vehicle is in gear and the starter motor is accidentally engaged.

Important: DO NOT reprogram a FlexFuel (E85) vehicle while the fuel composition learn function is active. If necessary, drive the vehicle until the scan tool indicates that the fuel composition learn parameter is inactive. Programming with the fuel composition learn active will result in fuel trim DTCs.

    • If the ECM needs to be reprogrammed, refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
    • The Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn--Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn for the Tremec 5-Speed (TZ0) or Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn for the Tremec 5-Speed (M96).
    • Engine Oil Life Remaining--When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was reprogrammed.
    • Transmission Fluid Life Remaining--When available, use a scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was reprogrammed.

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .

    • Engine replacement
    • Any engine repair that disturbs the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor or its relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
    • CKP sensor
