Parking Brake Shoe Inspection Rear Disc Brakes

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation inTires and Wheels.
3. Remove the rear brake caliper and bracket . Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.



4. Remove the rear brake rotor.
5. Inspect the park brake shoe and lining and replace if any of the following conditions are found:

•	Excessive wear indicated by the park brake lining being worn down to the shoe

•	Brake lining cracking

•	Oil or fluid contamination of the brake lining




6. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .



7. Install the rear brake rotor.



8. Install the rear brake caliper and bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
9. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

Parking Brake Shoe Inspection Rear Drum Brakes

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.



2. Remove the rear brake drum. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes.



3. Inspect and replace the brake shoe and lining if any of the following conditions are found:

•	Excessive wear indicated by the brake lining being worn down to the shoe

•	Brake shoe lining cracking

•	Oil or fluid contamination

4. Adjust the park brake if necessary. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .



5. Install the rear brake drum. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment in Drum Brakes.
6. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
