VIBRATION/NOISE FROM ROOF LUGGAGE RACK

SUBJECT: VIBRATION/NOISE FROM ROOF LUGGAGE RACK (SWITCH FRONT AND REAR CROSS BOWS WITH SLIDERS)

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY REPORT A VIBRATION/NOISE FROM THE ROOF AREA AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN VEHICLE SPEED PLUS WIND SPEED EQUALS 70 MPH OR MORE.

CAUSE:

THE FRONT ROOF RACK CROSS BOW IS VIBRATING AT THE SIDE RAIL.

CORRECTION:

SWITCH THE FRONT AND REAR CROSS BOWS WITH SLIDERS ATTACHED, FOLLOWING THE SERVICE PROCEDURE IN SECTION 9F OF THE 1996 S/T TRUCK SERVICE MANUAL. THIS PLACES THE THUMBWHEEL ATTACHMENTS FOR THE CROSS BOWS IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS DIMINISHING THE VIBRATION/NOISE.

NOTICE: ONLY HAND TOOLS SHOULD BE USED DURING INSTALLATION. THE USE OF POWER TOOLS MAY RESULT IN THE CROSS-THREADING OF MOUNTING FASTENERS, NICKS AND SCRATCHES OF COMPONENT PARTS.
