Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  3. Remove the electrical connector from the sensor.
  4. Remove the bolt (2).
  5. Using a twisting and pulling motion, remove the vehicle speed sensor (1) from the case.
  6. Remove and discard the O-ring seal (3).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new O-ring seal (3) on the vehicle speed sensor (1).
  2. Coat the O-ring seal (3) with clean transmission fluid.
  3. Install the vehicle speed sensor (1) into the transmission case.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the bolt (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  7. Connect the wiring harness electrical connector to the vehicle speed sensor.
  8. Remove the drain pan.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON® III transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
