This bulletin is being issued to revise the following diagnostic tables:

    • SIR Diagnostic System Check
    • Air Bag Indicator Flashes Continuously

Please use the following to replace the existing information in the SIR sub-section of Restraints in the Service Manual.

SIR Diagnostic System Check

Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

Is the AIR BAG warning lamp illuminated?

Go to AIR BAG Warning Lamp Circuit Malfunction

Go to Step 2

Note the AIR BAG warning lamp as the ignition switch is turned to ON.

Does the AIR BAG warning lamp illuminate steady for 6 seconds and then go OFF?

--

System OK

Go to Step 3

Display flash code DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying.

Are there any DTCs displayed?

--

Go to the appropriate DTC table

Go to Step 4

Does the AIR BAG warning lamp flash continuously?

--

Go to AIR BAG Indicator Flashes Continuously

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Intermittent DTCs are indicated. Refer to Diagnostic Aids for that specific DTC.

Are all DTCs diagnosed and malfunctions repaired?

Go to Step 1

Was the SIR Diagnostic System Check performed?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM).
  3. Measure the resistance between the SDM harness connector C2 terminal 15 and ground.

Is the resistance measured less than the specified value?

OL

(Infinite)

Go to Step 3

Go to Source Voltage Drop

Repair the short to ground in the I/P wiring harness between the Data Link Connector (DLC) and the SDM.

Are all the repairs complete?

Go to Step 4

Reconnect all the SIR components. Make sure all the components are properly mounted.

Have all the SIR components been reconnected and properly mounted?
