Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 417479 Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR System. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the following components from the steering column:
    3. • The lower trim cover screw

       Important: It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel to access the lower trim cover screws. The screws can be easily accessed by rotating the steering wheel.

    • The 2 lower trim cover screws (2) that are located beneath the steering wheel (1).

  3. The steering column lower trim cover (6).

    4. Object Number: 328445 Size: SH
  4. Remove the following components from the steering column:
    5. • The steering column upper trim cover screw (3)
    • The steering column upper trim cover (2)
  5. Inspect the base (1) for damage. If damage to the base is observed, replace the turn signal, headlamp and windshield washer switch as an assembly. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.

    6. Object Number: 417495 Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch electrical connector (2).
  7. Remove the following components from the steering column:
    8. • The 2 screws (1)
    • The wiper/washer switch (3)

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 417495 Size: SH
  1. Install the wiper/washer switch (3) to the steering column. Secure the switch with the 2 screws (1).
  2. Connect the wiper/washer switch electrical connector (2).

    3. Object Number: 328445 Size: SH
  3. Install the steering column upper trim cover (2) to the vehicle. Secure the trim cover with the screw (3).

    4. Object Number: 363398 Size: SH
  4. Install the steering column lower trim cover (6) to the vehicle. Secure the trim cover with the 3 screws.
  5. Enable the SIR System. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
