GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Symptom test--Perform the symptom simulation test to reproduce the user's condition.
  2. Inspect the condition of the connection between the connectors.
  3. Inspect the failure between connectors by visual check and contact pressure check.

    • Connector disconnected
    • Terminals rusted
    • Terminals deformation or loose fit
  4. Inspect the continuity of the wiring harness.
  5. Important:  Measure the resistance while slightly shaking the wire harness vertically and horizontally.

  6. Disconnect both connector ends of the wiring harness, measure the resistance between one connector terminal and other.
  7. Specifications

        • Normal: 1 ohm or less--no open circuit
        • Abnormal: infinite ohms--open circuit
  8. A wiring harness rarely breaks at the middle of the harness. Most broken harnesses occur at the connector.
  9. Inspect the short circuit of the wiring harness.
  10. Important:  Measure the resistance while slightly shaking the wire harness vertically and horizontally.

  11. Disconnect the connectors of the wiring harness at both ends, measure the resistance between the applicable terminals of the connector and body ground.
  12. Specifications

        • Normal: 1M ohm or higher--no short circuit
        • Abnormal: Low resistance--short circuit
  13. Measure the resistance between 1 terminal and another terminal in the same connector, except between the power supply or between earth.
  14. Specifications

        • Normal: 1M ohm or higher--no short circuit
        • Abnormal: Low resistance--short circuit
  15. Temporary connection failure of the connector.
  16. Temporary connection failure of the connector is caused when DTC detection cannot be found.

Make sure to inspect and clean the connector and delete the stored DTC.
