WHINE OR BUZZ NOISE IN RADIO WHEN CRUISE CONTROL OPERATES

Model and Year: 1986-87 NOVA CRUISE CONTROL AND RADIO

Some vehicles equipped with cruise control and a radio may exhibit a whine or buzzing noise from the radio speakers when the cruise control is operating.

This noise is caused by electrical interference generated by the electrically driven cruise control vacuum pump mounted to the right hand side inner fender panel, underhood.

The repair for this condition is to install a noise suppression choke coil, P/N 94846080, available from GMSPO.

The suppression coil should be inserted, in series, at the electrical harness connector which is part of the vacuum pump motor assembly.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
