J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
  3. Remove the LH engine mount strut. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.
  4. Remove the spark plugs wires from the left side spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.

  5. Object Number: 70064  Size: SH
  6. Use the J 38185 to reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp from the water outlet housing.
  7. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet housing.

  8. Object Number: 622761  Size: SH
  9. Remove the heater outlet hose (2) from the thermostat bypass pipe.
  10. Remove the throttle body inlet (3) and outlet (4) hoses from the thermostat bypass pipe.

  11. Object Number: 54419  Size: SH
  12. Remove the thermostat bypass pipe nut.

  13. Object Number: 187083  Size: SH
  14. Remove the thermostat bypass pipe hose and clamp from the thermostat bypass pipe.

  15. Object Number: 543315  Size: SH
  16. Remove the thermostat bypass pipe bolt.
  17. Remove the thermostat bypass pipe.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 543315  Size: SH
  1. Install the thermostat bypass pipe.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the thermostat bypass pipe bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (98 lb in).

  5. Install the thermostat bypass pipe hose and clamp to the thermostat bypass pipe.

  6. Object Number: 54419  Size: SH
  7. Install the thermostat bypass pipe nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the heater outlet hose (2) and the clamp to the thermostat bypass pipe.
  10. Install the throttle body inlet (3) and outlet (4) hoses and the clamps to the thermostat bypass pipe.

  11. Object Number: 70064  Size: SH
  12. Install the radiator inlet hose to the water outlet housing.
  13. Use the J 38185 to reposition and install the radiator inlet hose clamp to the water outlet housing.
  14. Install the spark plugs wires to the left side spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
  15. Install the LH engine mount strut. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.
  16. Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
  17. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
