Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 289316  Size: SH

    Important: When replacing battery cables be sure to use replacement cables that are the same type, gage and length.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  3. Remove the ground wire bolt and the ground wire from the frame.

  5. Remove the remote positive stud cover

  7. Remove the positive cable junction block lead nut (1).
  8. Remove the positive battery cable (2) from the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Remove the front lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  11. Remove the transaxle stud nut and the ground wire from the transaxle stud.

  13. Remove the positive battery cable nut (8) from the starter motor BAT terminal.
  14. Remove the positive battery cable (9) from the starter motor BAT terminal.

  16. Unclip and remove the battery cable harness from the retainers (2,3,4).
  17. Remove the battery cable harness from the vehicle.
  18. Remove the positive battery cable from the wiring harness conduit.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the positive battery cable into the wiring harness conduit.
  2. Install the battery cable harness to the retainers (2,3,4).

  3. Object Number: 473052  Size: SH
  4. Install the positive battery cable (9) to the starter motor BAT terminal.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the positive battery cable nut (8) to the starter motor BAT terminal.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the ground wire and the transaxle stud nut.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Install the front lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Install the positive battery cable (2) to the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  14. Install the positive cable junction block lead nut (1).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  16. Install the remote positive stud cover.

  17. Object Number: 289316  Size: SH
  18. Install the ground wire and the bolt to the frame.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  20. Connect the positive battery cable.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the terminal bolt to 15 N·m (11 ft lb).

  22. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
