Exhaust Manifold Installation - Left Side C, H, W


    Object Number: 683917  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the exhaust manifold studs.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold studs to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  3. Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
  4. Install the exhaust manifold.
  5. Install the exhaust manifold bolts and nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts and nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Install the left side spark plugs.
  8. Tighten

        • Tighten the spark plugs to 27 N·m (20 lb ft) when installing the spark plugs in to a new cylinder head.
        • Tighten the spark plugs to 15 N·m (13 lb ft) when re-installing the spark plugs after initial installation.

  9. Install the left engine lift hook.
  10. Install the left engine lift hook nut and bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the left engine lift hook nut and bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  12. Install the left exhaust manifold heat shield.
  13. Install the left exhaust manifold heat shield nuts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the left exhaust manifold heat shield nuts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  1. Install the exhaust manifold studs.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold studs to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  3. Install the exhaust manifold gasket to the cylinder head.
  4. Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
  5. Install the exhaust manifold nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  7. Install the left side spark plugs.
  8. Tighten

        • Tighten the spark plugs to 27 N·m (20 lb ft) when installing the spark plugs into a new cylinder head.
        • Tighten the spark plugs to 15 N·m (13 lb ft) when re-installing the spark plugs after initial installation.

  9. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
  10. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts and bolt.
  11. Tighten

        • Tighten the 2 heat shield nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
        • Tighten the heat shield bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Important: Inspect the EGR inlet pipe for leaks. Replace the EGR adapter if the pipe leaks.

  12. Install the EGR inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold.
  13. Install the EGR inlet pipe bolt and nuts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (36 lb ft) and the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) .
