Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Remove the six clips and the right side splash shield (1).
  6. Remove the two bolts and the lower generator cover plate.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Loosen the adjusting bolt on the upper generator mounting bracket, and remove the coolant pump drive belt and/or the generator drive belt from the vehicle.

    Important: Do not loosen the crankshaft timing gear bolt (2) at the center of the crankshaft pulley.

  10. Remove the five crankshaft pulley bolts (3) and the crankshaft pulley (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crankshaft pulley (1). Fit the pin hole on the pulley to the dowel pin on the crankshaft timing gear
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Secure the crankshaft pulley with the five crankshaft pulley bolts (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts (3) to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  5. Install the accessory drive belt to the following components:
  6. • The crankshaft
    • The coolant pump
    • The generator
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  8. Install the generator cover plate. Secure the generator cover plate with two bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the generator cover bolts to 5.5 N·m (49 lb in).

  10. Install the right side splash shield (1).
  11. Secure the splash shield with the six clips.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Adjust the accessory drive belt tension to specifications.
  14. Tighten the adjustment bolt.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the upper generator adjustment bolt to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  16. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  17. Install the negative battery cable.
