Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection LZ4, LY7, and LE5

Disconnect Procedure

    Warning: Refer to SIR Warning in the Preface section.

    Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Record all of the vehicle preset radio stations.
  2. Turn OFF all the lamps and the accessories.
  3. Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
  4. Remove the battery cover. Disengage the retainers in order to remove the cover.

  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.

Connect Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

    Note: Clean any existing oxidation from the contact face of the battery terminal and battery cable using a wire brush before installing the battery cable to the battery terminal.

  1. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery and tighten to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  2. Install the battery cover.
    3. 2.1. Install the locking tab next to the strut tower first.
    2.2. Install the locking tab next to the engine second.
    2.3. Install the locking tab next to the powertrain control module (PCM) last.
  3. Reset the radio stations and the clock.
  4. Re-initialize the power windows. Refer to Power Window Reinitialization.

Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection LAT

Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Turn on the radio and record all of the customer's radio station presets.
  2. Ensure that all lamps and accessories are turned off.
  3. Turn the ignition OFF and remove the ignition key.
  4. Open the hood.
  5. Remove the generator battery control module cover. Refer to Generator Control Module Cover Replacement.
  6. Loosen the negative battery cable nut (1).
  7. Remove the negative battery cable (2) from the battery.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1891198 Size: SH

    Note: Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal and the battery cable end.

  1. Install the negative battery cable (2) to the battery.

    2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Tighten the negative battery cable nut (1) and tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
  3. Install the generator battery control module cover. Refer to Generator Control Module Cover Replacement.
  4. Close the hood.
  5. Insert the ignition key and turn the ignition to the ON position.
  6. Program all of the customer's radio station presets and set the radio clock to the current time.
