Circuit Description

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) diagnostic system check is a test to identify an electronic system malfunction. The IPC diagnostic system check is the starting point for any IPC complaints. Understanding and using the following table will reduce diagnostic time and prevent the unnecessary replacement of parts.

Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step determines if communication can be established with the instrument panel cluster.

  2. This step inspects the IPC circuits for power and grounds.

  3. This step inspects for present trouble codes.

  4. This is the IPC self test.

Inspect all IPC power and ground feeds. Refer to Instrument Cluster Inoperative .

Is the diagnostic test complete?

Use the Scan Tool in order to read the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Are any DTCs present?

Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List/Type

Go to Step 4

Use the Scan Tool in order to WOW the instrument cluster.

Do all of the indicators and gauges function properly?

System OK

Go to Step 5

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Is the repair complete?
