After a battery disconnect or replacement, the fuel gauge may peg past the "full" mark if the disconnect/replacement occurred while the ignition key was in the "ON" position.
If the key is left in the "ON" position when the battery is reconnected, the voltage surge may cause the fuel gauge needle to swing past the full mark all the way around below the empty mark.
To return the fuel gauge needle back into position, follow the procedure below.
Notice : When repositioning the fuel gauge needle back into position, use extreme caution not to damage the cluster or cluster lens. The cluster lens is not serviceable and the cluster would have to be sent out for exchange/repair if damaged.
Important:
• The above listed vehicles are equipped with an air core fuel gauge. DO
NOT attempt this procedure on a vehicle with a stepper motor fuel gauge. • Make sure the key is in the "OFF" position. • Rotate the fuel gauge needle in the COUNTERCLOCKWISE/LEFT direction ONLY.
- Bend a large paper clip and go through the Trip Reset Button Hole in the cluster lens and rotate the fuel gauge needle counterclockwise/left direction so that the needle is between the fuel and empty position.
- Remove the paper clip.
- Turn the key to the "ON" position and observe the fuel gauge for proper operation.
