Electrical Information Reference

    •  Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle.
    •  Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections.
    •  Battery Inspection/Test.
    •  Symptoms - Engine Mechanical.

  1. Carry out the Diagnostic System Check, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle.
  2. Carry out the Battery Inspection/Test, refer to Battery Inspection/Test.
  3. Inspect the wiring for damage. Inspect all connections to the starter motor, solenoid, battery and all ground connections.
  4. Make sure the engine is not seized.
  5. Crank engine.
  6. If the starter motor makes a rumble, growl or knocking noise remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  7. Inspect for damaged, worn or chipped teeth.
  8. If the teeth are damaged replace the starter motor.
  9. Install the starter motor.
  10. Crank engine.
  11. If starter motor makes a whoop or high pitched noise remove starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  12. Inspect for damaged, worn or chipped teeth on the ring gear/flexplate
  13. If teeth are damaged replace ring gear/flexplate. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement or Engine Flywheel Replacement.
    Install the starter motor.
