Front Drop Link Replacement in Service

2009 and Prior Chevrolet Caprice, Lumina (Middle East Export)

This bulletin is to alert all dealership technicians to the difference between the right and left hand side stabilizer drop link and the importance of using the correct part for the required application.

Use of the incorrect parts (right hand to left hand) can be achieved by incorrect installatioin as described below or by reversing the orientation of the link, top to bottom, and may result in overtravel and fracture of the ball joint.

Important Installation Information

It is important to note that there is a left hand side drop link and a right hand side one.

In addition, there is a top and bottom end of each drop link.

If the orientation is incorrect or the wrong side drop link is installed, a dislocated drop link can result.

If the droplinks have been mixed up, the correct vehicle side and orientation can be determined as follows:

(1)	Left-hand drop link
(2)	Correctly oriented drop link on RH side of vehicle

The drop link must be installed into the stabilizer bar from its road-wheel side (refer to Figure 1).

The drop link must be installed into the strut from its rear side (refer to Figure 1).

If either of the two conditions above are not satisfied, then the drop link has not been installed correctly and may be installed on the wrong side of the vehicle.

Determining orientation (up or down)

The end which has the hexagonal extension is the top of the drop link and should be installed to the strut (not to the stabilizer bar).
