Moving the ignition switch to the START position sends a 12 V signal to the park/neutral position (PNP) switch. The PNP switch must be in P or N in order for the voltage to flow to the coil side of the Theft Deterrent relay and then to the Theft Deterrent Module (VTD) where it is grounded to activate the relay. The VTD grounds the Start Enable circuit when the ignition is in the START position and all theft criteria is met. Refer to Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) Description in Theft Deterrent. A 12 V signal is also supplied to the switch side of the Theft deterrent relay and then on to the starter solenoid when the relay is activated. Ground is supplied through the engine block.
