Removal Procedure

Important: The PG260 F1 starter motor is not serviceable and must be replaced as a complete unit.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connections at the starter motor.
  4. Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.

  5. Object Number: 45668  Size: SH
  6. Remove the starter bolts. Remove the shims, as needed.
  7. Remove the starter motor from the engine.

Installation Procedure

Make sure the starter motor is a PG260 F1.

  1. Install the starter motor and any removed shims to the engine.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the starter bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  5. Install the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  6. Connect the electrical connections to the starter motor.
  7. Tighten

        • Tighten the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut to 9.5 N·m (84.08 lb in).
        • Tighten the starter solenoid switch S terminal nut to 2.3 N·m (8.8 lb in).
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
