Defroster Grille Buzz/Vibration (Replace Grille Seal)

Some customers may comment on a buzzing noise or vibration coming from the defroster grille on top of the instrument panel. This noise is more prevalent when the vehicle is idling at a stop. The customer may also comment that the front of the defroster grille panel seems loose and is contacting the windshield.

The front area of the defroster grille panel does not have hold down clips/fasteners to prevent vibration.

A new front seal is available that pushes the front of the grille down and away from the windshield. Replace the front seal on the defroster grille. Use the following procedure and the part number shown below.

1. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to SI Document ID #798731.
2. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to SI Document ID #804382.
3. Remove the seal that is pressed over the front of the grille.
4. Slide the new bulb-type seal over the front edge of the defroster grille.




Important: When reinstalling the grille, the bulb portion of the seal (1) should contact the bottom of the window and hold the grille down and away from the windshield.

5. Install the defroster grille. Refer to SI Document ID #804382.
6. Install the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to SI Document ID #798731.
