The turbocharger learn procedure is required when the following service procedures have been performed:

    • The turbocharger vane position control solenoid valve replacement
    • The turbocharger vane position sensor replacement
    • The engine control module (ECM) replacement
    • The turbocharger replacement
    • Any service to the turbocharger components

Failure to perform the turbocharger learn procedure may result in setting DTCs.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Monitor the ECM for DTCs with a scan tool. If any DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
  3. Perform the following steps:
  4. • Block the drive wheels.
    • Set the parking brake.
    • Turn OFF the A/C.
    • The vehicle must be in Park or Neutral.
    • Start and idle the engine.
    • Allow the engine operating temperature to exceed 72°C (162°F).

    Important: While the learn procedure is in progress, the throttle should remain at idle. DO NOT change the accelerator pedal position during this procedure.

  5. Allow the ECM to learn the new turbocharger positions.
  6. Clear any DTCs. The turbocharger learn procedure is complete. If any DTCs reset, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
  7. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds after the learn procedure is completed successfully.
